Keeping it clean should reduce all sorts of risks.
You might also notice damage and other issues.
When doing a carburettor OH,
intake manifold
and throttle cable
should be replaced at minimum.
This one was pretty stiff…
I clean it up wondering if there will be a next time before reassembling.
Maybe a spirit dwells in it?
Motorcycle maintenance is… mostly just cleaning, I guess. Or maybe it’s all about the prep work?
Basically, I’m like a cleaning guy polishing things.
The air filter is dusty too, so I’ll replace it.
I also replaced the starter motor O-ring.
A spirit should dwell in it. Putting it together feels good too. ♪
I’ll also replace the engine damper. The K6 comes with no-nut fasteners from the start—super convenient.
I’ll remove the front-side mount and clean it too.
This is a two-piece assembly, so the fit is a bit loose; I’ll assemble it carefully so there’s no undue stress.
I’ll clean the damper hole too.
If I coat the damper with grease, it’ll slide in smoothly, and next time the case should be shiny.
It was stiff when I removed it, so I tapped it.
I replace the engine mount lock nuts every time.
I also replaced the M8 mount bolts with electroless nickel.
It’s already at 80,000 kilometers, so it’ll probably start leaking. I’ll replace the shift shaft seal too.
I filed down the tip of a flathead screwdriver, heated it, bent it, and welded on a screw boss.
If the bend isn’t enough, I can heat it and twist it with pliers to bend it easily.
Tool steel is handy.
You need to assemble it so the shaft doesn’t go the other way.
Basically, all oil seals should go in by hand. For spots prone to rust, applying thread compound keeps the oil film lasting longer—you could even use it as a coating.
