So, we got our hands on a brand-new, unused Dover kit—you know, that nostalgic old Pokidam kit? The owner wanted to install it, so let’s get it assembled.
Oh, how nostalgic—yeah, we had these. This one right here.
I’ve never sold or installed one for a GSF1200, though…
I’ve only ever fitted the SPL version from a certain place.
It really is brand-new… amazing…
Now let’s take it apart. We did a carburettor maintenance a while back—quite a while actually—so it’s clean.
Hmm? Doesn’t the layout look a bit odd?
We’ve quietly switched to right-side piping.
Even when it’s lying on the sidestand, it goes from right to left—can’t really tell if it makes a difference.
But it does make hose removal and installation easier.
The float chamber was in nice condition too.
It has seven needle positions—that’s pretty nice, though I’m not sure we’d ever use all of them.
Two of the racing o-rings are really swollen and won’t tighten up.
This is bad… so we tried a quick test: maybe they’ll shrink if we put them in the oven?
Just very gently—that’s all it takes. A heat gun might work too.
They’re a bit snug, but they fit now—glad that worked out.
We synchronized the carburetors and the installation is complete. Now comes the nerve-wracking test ride.
Since we’re sending the rear suspension out for OH, let’s lubricate the linkage while we’re at it.
We repacked it with fresh grease and reassembled it.
Took it out for a light test ride. Man, the GSF1200 is a sweet bike. ♪
