Cowl tabs break pretty often, don’t they?
They snap off, right?
There have been various repair methods around for ages, but they all seem to involve a lot of work for questionable long-term durability.
From what I know now, I believe this is the simplest and most effective method.
Here’s a tab (nicknamed the lug) that broke clean off.
When you can still see the male and female relationship, the work is relatively straightforward.
Lightly scuff both surfaces with Scotch-Brite and then degrease them—that’s the sure way.
Punch out masking tape with a gasket punch to make it look neat—I think that keeps it from looking out of place. This time I used 30 mm diameter.
The more surface area you get, the stronger the advantage.
*Be careful not to make it too strong or you’ll cause secondary damage. Keep assembly and disassembly gentle…
Spot-tack with instant adhesive.
You only need to set the position, so a small amount is fine.
It’s a two-part polyurethane adhesive.
The included gray version has a 180-second work time, which cures so fast you feel rushed.
With Megmix Plus, the work time extends to 15 minutes, making it extremely easy to work with.
I don’t think I’ll ever use anything but Plus again…
Gently press with your finger to check how well it’s working.
For the final shaping, use nitrile gloves and push, push!
It’s not instant, but you can repair it very quickly and it’s durable.
You can even sand and reshape it… it’s an amazing product.
