Installing a dashcam is quite tedious.
Fabricating brackets and routing/connecting wiring requires considerable effort.
When I saw a “wireless speaker” at a shop,
I suddenly thought:
In the old days, speakers needed wiring and an amplifier too.
Maybe
in a few years, dashcam installation will also be “something we used to route wires for”
– that’s what I might think.
Ideally, this “unitless”
independent front and rear system would make installation easier.
Front-only or rear-only users would be fine too.
With this unit, you need to layout the front and rear cameras, power connections, handlebar switches, GPS, and more from both ends of the bike.
On a motorcycle where mounting space is already limited,
it’s surprisingly tedious without a proper work environment.
What kind of dashcam would be ideal? I imagined a few ideas.
“License plate holder integrated” idea
What about a “license plate holder integrated” dashcam?
Even if it’s somewhat thick, that’s not a problem.
If you get “power and ground” from “the license plate light,” it would be very easy.
There’s room for an SD card too.
Date, time, and other info would be supplied by an internal battery or button cell.
You could really install it in just 10-20 minutes.
Front and rear camera unit idea
“No separate unit” – the camera itself serves as the unit.
The camera includes “an SD card” and “an internal battery.”
It might be slightly larger, but
by stepping down power from “12V” and continuously charging it,
the “date and time” would be maintained.
For power, the rear could use “the license plate light,” and the front could use “the handlebar switch” or “the brake area.”
By significantly reducing the time spent on “fabrication and installation,” dashcam adoption would likely accelerate considerably.
After all, you’d just install it and connect the power.
