The muffler paint job is coming along nicely, so it should be pretty much complete now…

Finished with Ceratop Black heat-resistant paint
This color turns out incredibly seductive

Suzuki’s OEM exhaust gasket is excellent
It has a flange like this, so you don’t need to apply grease or anything.
Plus, with this sandwiched wool-like shape, the cushioning seems pretty good.
=At least for me, there’s a trick where you can reuse it…
Use it by hooking the flange in the right direction.
Converting Suzuki’s nasty exhaust pipe bolt design to studs
In Suzuki’s case, aftermarket muffler flange thicknesses vary subtly.
Since they use bolts, each manufacturer sets their own specs freely.
When converting to studs like this, you need to measure the length and install accordingly.
I tried to think of it as a menu option, but it wasn’t that simple…
Benefits
With studs, muffler removal isn’t scary anymore *no broken bolts or stripped threads
Lock nuts can be used, reducing flange stress *tight enough to bend, loose enough to fall off
I’ve always thought bolts had almost no benefits, but…
finally I could tackle this now.
Shift not engaging smoothly and fluid leaking
I noticed the sidestand was pretty rusty.
When I squeeze the lever, it seems to make a slight squelching sound.
It’s all wet…

Opening it up for the first time in probably 20 years~
The cup has stretched out and lost all its firmness and shine.

It’s assembled in a closed umbrella state, so some wear is inevitable.
When you replace it with a new one, it becomes super responsive! The feel becomes linear… supposedly.
This is why brake and clutch overhauls become necessary over time and mileage~
Finish it up properly and then it’s just assembly! It should work smoothly… probably.
So many parts… I think to myself. Aftermarket makers really want to use plates for everything…
All that’s left is the inspection and we’re done~ Whee!
