I recently purchased the Makita Recipro Saw JR 002 G
and I was a bit discouraged by its sheer power, torque, and heavy weight.

but then I thought, “Wait a minute, what if I try cutting wood in orbital mode?” and gave it a try.

For cutting wood, a chainsaw is the go-to, but I don’t like them.
I have a handheld chainsaw, but I haven’t gotten around to purchasing a serious chainsaw.
I’m actually quite interested in them, but like brush cutters, chainsaws are extremely dangerous tools.
If you’re not careful, there are quite a lot of people worldwide who suffer serious injuries from chainsaws, even more so than from brush cutters.
So if you want to cut wood and other things, a recipro saw is more versatile.
With a recipro saw, there’s no kickback, so you can use it with peace of mind.
Also, with a recipro saw, you can use it even close to the ground near the base of trees, so it’s quite practical.
I was amazed when I cut wood in orbital mode
With 18V, even this thickness struggles a bit.
Without enough power and torque, the chip ejection doesn’t work well and it doesn’t progress smoothly.
However, with 40V, it cuts cleanly and easily without having to think about blade feed or chip ejection.
After using it, I realized
that this tool is indeed meant to be used with its own weight and against something firmly fixed, and I felt that deeply.
This time I used a Z-Saw Pro 300mm to cut a tree stump.
When I cut this with 18V before, it was very difficult, but with a little practice, it cuts easily.
I think the orbital mode’s chip ejection performance improved the cutting conditions.
Of course, it doesn’t come close to the cutting speed of a chainsaw.
However, as a convenient cutting machine, I found it to be very effective.
In summary, it’s a bit of a specialized tool, so I don’t think it’s a jack-of-all-trades.
It’s more like a workhorse that comes out when you really need it.
