This Golden Week is incredibly long. I’ve been doing nothing but tidying up and cleaning every day.
Now, the GSX-R750J that I supposedly fixed the other day. It was running great on the way out for a tour yesterday, but then? That strange feeling started happening again, so the owner came back early.
But you know, I just changed the fuel petcock and it was running perfectly… Since I’m still in Tokyo, I gave it a checkup.

The idle is rock solid and stable, but? When you start it, there’s a dip in the power, and if you keep riding it, you get a symptom like running out of gas. It gets progressively worse, and from a traffic light stop “it needs a lot of slip on the clutch” to start, or it stalls and dies.
I figured it was more electrical than carburettor, so I swapped in a similar igniter.
Let me pick through the igniter storage.

With a single-pick igniter, most should work, so I temporarily installed an igniter from a similar GSX-R750RK.
When I revved it up on the spot, “Hmm! That feels good!” Since putting on the net is a hassle, I had the owner take it for a test ride.
Perfect! One-shot success (*´ω`*)
So I didn’t have to tear apart the carburettor. Before I knew it, the oil-cooled Katana is 30 years old. I’m experiencing more and more places breaking down that I’ve never dealt with before.
This time, “crash → fuel petcock → igniter” overlapping troubles like this are becoming more likely. And that half-working state is really annoying. So as this classic bike develops more and more quirks, please take good care of it.
The Uotani full-power kit is nice, but there’s a slight “hit or miss” factor depending on the lot. In the past, some people had the unit die at 3000 kilometers, so it doesn’t have the reliability of the original.
Since it’s an aftermarket performance part, you need to understand that aspect. Well, anyway, glad it’s fixed (*´ω`*)Whew!
