10/18 Issue. GPz550 Communication – Optimize Screen Mounting! Easy on and off, right?

Back in those days, they used mysterious screen mounting methods.
I’m not sure if OEM parts are available, but they didn’t mount screens the same way.

When it comes to screen mounting methods,
“push rivets” or “well nuts” are used to gently secure the plastic.

If you fix it with bolts and nuts, the cowl and screen will crack, right?
Gently and softly resistant to vibration, with bolts that won’t loosen easy removal and installation – mount it that way.

The hole on the cowl side is about 7.7φ

The OEM version has a convex plastic nut inserted from the back and is fixed with a bolt from the front – a disappointing finish.
When you remove the screen, the plastic nuts fall off and eventually crack.
Back then, convenient materials weren’t available, so they had to trial and error their way through installation.

Don’t rigidly stick to the OEM mounting method – use modern convenient materials instead.

This time, since the cowl hole is large, I’ll use a well nut for mounting

This time I’m using M4 well nut C-440 . *Monotaro is surprisingly convenient.

Originally the screen was fixed with M5, but due to the cowl hole situation, I’m going with M4.
Either way, the cowl hole is a bit tight, so M4 turned out to be just right.

The bolts are simple flanged button cap screws (trivalent black)

I basically love iron bolts with flanges and trivalent black finish (*´ω｀*)

Small, subdued in color, and it looks sleek like the OEM version.

Installation is flexible! Even on top of the rubber flaps

It seemed to fit better, so I inserted it through the rubber flaps.
It’s a very convenient material – when you tighten the bolt, the body section compresses and acts as a lock, securing it in place.
And by compressing the rubber, it also has a spring effect, making it resistant to loosening and vibration.

The center is co-fastened with the inner cowl, so I attached a well nut on the inner cowl side.

When installed, it looks like this! Pretty sleek, right?

It’s important that the thread doesn’t stick out too much on the back.
If threads stick out too much, it looks 180% worse, so be careful.

Summary of this project:
7 well nuts C-440
7 flanged button cap screws (trivalent black)

By the way, with this mounting method, you can remove the screen just by unscrewing the bolts.
Nothing falls off the back, and you can easily remove the screen with just one tool.
You can easily take off the screen to polish it or clean it, so give it a try.

Using various convenient materials makes both the work and cleaning easier, I think.
