The popularity of grass cutting machines (brush cutters) is truly amazing.
They have such high expandability and versatility that they’re popular worldwide too.
Products like hedge trimmers that are a bit off the beaten path fall into the special-purpose category.
However, having just one is incredibly convenient! Really convenient! I think.
By the way, I’m a fan of Makita’s split motor series.
With this attachment, I own two hedge trimmers of different lengths.
Since I purchased this 600mm hedge trimmer, I haven’t used that attachment even once.
The sharpness, lightness, and feel of use are definitely superior with dedicated products—that’s what I felt.
Though it’s a bit unconventional, for people who love grass cutting and want to work safely, it’s a really great item.

Hedge trimmer types are safe, so I bet more people like them than you’d expect
It cuts with a reciprocating motion—that’s the kind of item this is.
Unlike the split motor, nothing is spinning at high speed, so you don’t have to worry about things flying at you.
It simply goes snip-snip-snip-snip cutting the grass.
This one is 600mm, so it’s fairly long and is basically meant to be used above waist level.
You can use it while crouching, but it gets extremely tiring, so I don’t recommend it.
What’s the difference from the split motor attachment?
This one Makita A-76043 Hedge Trimmer EN402MP is an attachment.
It’s 500mm long and can adjust angles, so it’s very convenient.
The attachment alone has a 500mm blade with a total length of 1444mm
When connected, it gets even longer, making it really not very practical to use.
It’s basically a dedicated tool for cutting at extremely high positions.
It’s so long that it feels heavy. (And it actually is heavy.)
The attachment structure sounds really good in theory,
but since it’s connected, there’s inevitably some play.
Plus, the longer it is, the more it wobbles and gets tiring.
Sometimes I think a one-piece design would be better.
I’m planning to say goodbye to this attachment.

I don’t usually do this, but I tried cutting some long grass on the ground.
The blade cuts with a reciprocating slide motion. Unlike the split motor, it’s direct, so the cutting power is exceptional.
Also, compared to that, it’s so much shorter and incredibly light.
The sound is also very quiet, so at first I didn’t have high expectations,
but I was genuinely shocked by the amazing sharpness.
Whoosh-whoosh-whoosh! Whoosh-whoosh-whoosh! That’s the kind of cutting power it has.
You know how sometimes there are areas where vines are completely tangled up?
When you throw a brush cutter into that mess, it gets caught and tangled, which is really annoying for a lot of people.
You could swap in a chip saw and go at it hard,
but it’s also a bit scary to thrust it into a place where you can’t see what’s inside.
That’s when this “Holy Sword Grass Cutter” comes in handy and cuts through freely in any direction.
While it’s not a universal solution, having one for special purposes will definitely come in handy.
Lately I’ve been thinking that the more you do something,
the more you realize that dedicated tools work better than versatile ones.
How deep you want to go depends on you, but I hope this helps as a reference.
