When using nylon cord, how smoothly you can swap it out is really important.
You want it as simple as possible—no tools needed, quick and easy.
With nylon cord, you basically don’t get kickback,
so you can go right at it even with concrete walls or grating in the way.
That said, if you’re hammering away at hard surfaces, the nylon wears down fast, so you need to be careful.
Oregon’s Jet Fit needs a brush cutter with decent power to really perform.
At 18V it might be a bit tight.

Weeds around drainage grates and grating are such a pain, right?
Sure, you could just pull them out, but there’s something satisfying about standing there and cutting them down with a buzz.
In places like this, you obviously can’t use a blade—it’s too dangerous—so nylon cord is the way to go.
Since the weeds are surrounded by hard concrete and grating, you have to be careful or the cord disappears fast.
But you can pulverize them in an instant.
The surrounding area had weeds scattered about, but they come out clean like this.
Dense patches of weeds are tedious, but scattered ones like this take time too.
But with nylon cord, you can stand there and knock them all out at once, so it’s incredibly convenient.
I’m currently using only nylon cord.

Right now I’m using Oregon Flexiblade, 2.65mm, 111081E as my go-to.
But since it wears fast on concrete and grating, I’ve ordered Oregon Techni 280, 3mm, 545821.
Interestingly, the well-reviewed options tend to be out of stock during cutting season.
I managed to get some, so I’m looking forward to trying it.
Even if the cutting edge dulls a bit, if durability improves, brush cutting should get a lot easier.
In my opinion, sticking with simple designs that are easy to find and convenient to use is the way to go.
Basically, avoid anything that requires tools or has tons of parts.
