“GS1000S” Year-End Review 2023 Part 1

The inspection expired in May of Heisei 31…
Wait? Heisei 31?

2019… so
only 4 years?
It feels like more time has passed.

I pulled it out on the lift and
carefully examined the parts and remembered things.

I prefer the GS1000S without the fairing.
When it has the fairing,
it becomes an “old man magnet.”

If I remove the fairing,
people just go “Huh???”
The handling is good too,

and the overall look is like this.
As always, the front and rear wheels are different.
So,

“Yoshimura KYB 40φ Front Fork”

And it’s the long version, so
no extension needed.
By the way, this fork
I bought from “Rough & Road.”
The story is long and nobody would believe it anyway,
so I’ll save it for another time.

“DYMAG SUZUKI Pitch 2.65-18”

2.65?
Not 2.75? That’s what it says.
I could measure it,
but anyway.
The design is the classic “old DYMAG” that everyone loves.

“SUNSTAR NEOCLASSIC 310φ”

I’m using an RGB500 disc in the first place.
Then
I realized partway through
“Consumables with SPL are a hassle.”
I quickly sold it and replaced it.

Suzuki has great compatibility, which is helpful.
This wheel is for RG, but
the center bore and PCD are common (oil-cooled).
How much compatibility does it have~?
This kind of thing
is the same with other manufacturers too.

“AP 3485 MONOBLOCK”

A monoblock called a GP caliper.
AP’s characteristic angular, rugged design.

I switched from the old Brembo Racing, but the operation is still stiff…
“The world uses Brembo.”
Well, that’s what they say…

“A Banjo I’ve Never Seen Before”

It came with something I bought at some point.
Probably nobody notices,
but “I really like it.”

“Bright Logic F Fender”

It’s a pretty old product.
The shape is inspired by F1 of that era and is exquisite.
Simple yet expressive of individuality.
*Discontinued

“JB Campagnolo GSX1100S 4.00-18”

What’s important with an aftermarket rear wheel is…
the availability of sprockets,
the hub damper structure.

I dislike the Dymag structure in the first place.

Unlike today,
there weren’t various model options,
it was an era of trial and error.
The internet is amazing…
I think wistfully.

“RGB500 Ventilated Disc”

The thickness is… astonishingly
“10MM.”
Of course, a dedicated caliper is needed.
By the way, this disc
has “inner and outer construction.”
The PCD is common with GSX1100S/GS1000.
You can install it just by machining the center bore.

“RGB500 Ventilated Caliper”

Even if you get the disc, the caliper
and vice versa.
A journey to find the missing puzzle pieces.

“Connections and private sales ONLY.”
It was really tough back then.
Now I think
ZZR1400 and Sunstar would be fine.

“RGB500 STD Brake Hose”

It’s rubber but only 8.2φ…
Because the outer diameter is thin, it goes “whoosh.”
Well, nobody notices…

“Garage S·A·M Swingarm”

Back then,
Kinoshita from Garage S·A·M
I asked him to do something difficult,
using real RGB500 parts and making it a collaboration.
So it’s BOLT ON.
Since it’s not for RGB,
it’s “long”
and the same length as the GS1000.

“Small Parts are RGB500”

Things like chain pullers are also magnesium, so
care is needed.
It’s something I can’t let anyone else touch.

“Suspension Mounts are Sheet Metal Bent in Period Style”

This too, I asked them to bend it
imagining the real thing.

“Togashi Shock Twin”

I ordered it right after it was released.
I owe a lot to the late K-san.
(;∀;)
