Makita A-76043 Hedge Trimmer EN402MP: Convenient “No-Scatter” Cutting, but Seriously Heavy

Makita A-76043 Hedge Trimmer EN402MP
I finally managed to get one after pre-ordering!

The other day I had the
Ground Trimmer Attachment EN424MP
that amazing thing you roll along

So I thought, wouldn’t an adjustable-angle
trimmer be less impressive?
(*´ω`*)

Actually, it’s not bad at all! Pretty comfortable
But here’s the thing:

It’s too long to swing around. So heavy…

Here’s what the overall setup looks like

The blade is 500 mm
Total length is 1444 mm

When connected, it’s quite long.
I mean, it’s really long…

And
with the blade at the end, it feels even heavier

Like fishing, maybe?
You’re just

The blade uses a sliding cut action. No debris flies around.

In power tool terms,
it’s kind of like the difference between a grinder and a nibbler.

Rotary versus reciprocating
different cutting methods
Unlike the centrifugal force of rotary tools,
this one does a “snip-snip” cut
which keeps debris and spray to a minimum

“Just lower it to adjust the angle”

Super convenient,
but if you push it too hard it’ll slip
*Don’t overdo it

You can adjust the angle in really fine increments.

One-touch adjustment—a really appreciated feature

Portability and storage
“It’s best to disconnect it every time”
The adjustment only moves 90–90 degrees
*Probably because having more range of motion
would be dangerous if it swung toward you

The M5 bolts can be modified to a lever-style fastener too

An area with dense growth nearly 2 meters tall

I decided to give it a try, swinging away
and cutting the grass

I can cover this much in about 10 minutes.
Performance better than I expected
(*´ω`*)Wow!

But
it’s long, so it’s heavy
To put it in perspective…

Like swinging a mop around in a swimming pool?

Not quite that extreme,
but that’s the general idea

Chip saws really are versatile!
That’s what I realized

It uses body movements you don’t normally make,
so it’s surprisingly tiring

Especially since you’re gripping the switch while swinging,
my right arm in particular…

I’ve completely fallen for
the split-shaft motor.

Makita really is fun~
