GSX-R1100J HB Fork Oil & Stem Bearing Replacement, Throttle Cable Fabrication, Carburetor Helicoil

Oh! That’s an old-timer magnet!

It was giving off a somewhat troublesome vibe… so it got shelved.
Starting today!

So let’s start with the work that should go as planned…

Replacing the stem bearing.

The grease was still holding up pretty well.

It looks like it could be reused… but since replacement is requested, I’ll replace it.

Smooth insertion with the hydraulic punch.
I’m not a fan of tapping if I can help it.

Old maintenance manuals used to say “tap until it goes ‘clang'”…
Visual confirmation with a mirror.

Could it be… discontinued? I’ll seal it with a treasured spare.

It was so dirty that once I started, there was no stopping… some parts came off and others didn’t. ( ;∀;)
That’ll do.

Replacing the fork oil.
It smells pretty bad… that rotten egg smell.

Vacuum bled and oil level adjusted. The spring is aftermarket at 0.85K/MM.

Also replaced the lock on the back of the fender.

Request to replace the meter damper.
I already have a bad feeling about this.

Peeling off two pieces that were bonded on both sides.
Super tedious… about an hour.

That’s about it.

Applied fluorine grease to the meter gear and sealed it. Damper replacement complete.

Remade the wire. Swapped the inner from the customer-supplied part.

The carburetor was adjusted too much, so the screw threads got loose.

Except for one on #2, all have proper torque, so rest assured.

Dig it out and install a tangless helicoil.
This is a revolutionary product. Anyone still drooling over the old type (*´Д`)ハァハァ…
You should definitely upgrade.

No tricks required—it’s such a wonderful item that it’s harder to mess up than to succeed.

I’ve been having carburetor overflow trauma lately, so I’m running some gas through just to be safe.

Tomorrow we’ll put the bodywork on and we’re done.

A clean bike really does look great.

See you!
