Every Morning at 8 [Thoughts] Motorcycle. Center Stand Tips? Angle is Key.

There are definitely motorcycles where the center stand is hard to deploy.

There are tricks to how you deploy it, but actually, fundamentally? There are often more issues than you’d think.

When you can’t do it well, the center stand itself might be the problem.

The angle is seriously BAD (*´艸`)

Left and right images.

Assume both stands are in contact with the ground.
Between left and right, the stand has a difference in stroke before it becomes fully upright.

More stroke = lifting a lot

That’s the thing. In short, heavy, difficult, and awkward all at once.

Racing stands are the same (*´艸`)

If you can’t get it up without stepping on it, the height is wrong.

However,

If there’s a benefit like tire warmers or wheel removal convenience, that’s different.

If lowering it one or two notches doesn’t change work convenience, there’s no point in having a tall stand, and it only increases the chance of tipping the bike when deploying the stand…

I bet oh! quite a few people have experienced that?

If there’s no point, lower is definitely better.

Wheel installation is just a hassle. As low as possible is best.

Let’s get back to the center stand…

By design, some center stands have a reclined angle.
If there’s plenty of clearance in how much the rear lifts when the stand is deployed, shortening it might be okay.

Unfortunately, if the center stand angle is off, honestly you just have to get the hang of it.

Laying a pen down and standing it up might help you visualize it.

Can’t deploy the center stand.
Maybe it’s not actually your fault?
