February is flying by…
Starting this year, we’re firmly closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
On Mondays, we may go for inspections, but we don’t handle any work including intake or delivery.
So let’s go ahead and assemble the front fork.
I’ve already laid out the groundwork last month, so now it’s just assembly.
The dual-stage spring really shows the age of this machine.
I thought the GSX1100S Katana fork springs might fit…
but I was way off.
I could machine the cylinder rod holes, but…
for now I’ll keep it stock. There were four 6.4mm holes.
If bolts don’t slide in smoothly, there’s no point in tightening them.
First comes cleaning, second comes cleaning.
We seal the oil seal lip with fluorine grease during assembly.
MOLYCOTE and DuPont—just hearing those names sounds like quality… or is it just me?
AZ BGR-002 Bicycle Fluorine Grease 100% Pure [Long-Term Lubrication] 5g BG011 Fluorine grease is surprisingly interesting—you should keep some on hand.
We vacuum-bleed it to properly purge all the air.
And that’s how the front fork is complete! (^_-)-☆
The appearance is pristine, and we’re happy with the finish.
I have a bit of a hoarding habit, so I stock various backup rings.
Some of them quietly get discontinued…
Machining them on the lathe is a pain, so I keep usable ones in stock each time.
It fits perfectly in this case and looks great.
A humble detail.
I’ll keep working on it when I get a chance.
