I picked up this as-is GS750 a few years back.
And then I just left it sitting there… for years.
While I’m gathering parts, it’s nice and easy, you know? (I wonder if this is how customers feel…)
I’m going to dive in and fix it up with gusto.
Swapping it out for a repro harness (from Yahoo Auctions).
This GS750 had some mysterious engine-won’t-start issue and went into a long sleep as a result.
Just as I was about to power it up and check the electrical system,
“Shhhhh” — smoke, smoke, smoke…
I yanked the battery terminal off by force to be safe.
The Dyna 2000 was putting out a massive plume of smoke… scary stuff, that Dyna. Really scary.

The original harness was modified, and honestly I can’t remember if what I bought was just a regular GS750 or a GS750E.
After comparing them, they’re pretty much the same. Classic Suzuki. Those were good times… really good times.
For bikes in the old-timer class, I have both domestic and import versions with official manuals.
Here’s the part number: 99500-37000-01E.
What? You can still get it? It’s obviously discontinued domestically, and there’s no part number for it in Japan.
I bought a new one from CMS the other day… but!

When you want something old, that’s when you should buy it.
You can take your time deciding on things that are always available.
But old stuff has limited inventory. So go for it with momentum!
I sourced a meter. Since I couldn’t find a GS750 one, I got a GS550 unit.
I’m not an expert, but they’re pretty much the same. You could say they’re practically interchangeable.
The meter connector shape is different, so I’ll need to change it.
This is the pin connector typical of that era’s GSX1100S. This connector is rare, so I’m keeping it in stock.

I solved the mystery of the extra ring and it’s complete!
The extra ring turned out to be a speed warning light, and since it’s a GS550, it’s a 6-speed indicator. (^_-)☆
There’s no way it would hold… which explains the bargain price.
The chrome sleeve is plastic, and the rubber sandwiched in there means it loosens and spins.
For now I’ve faked it with a lock nut. (/ω＼)
Compared to the GS turn signals, it’s a bit smaller, but it has the right vibe.
With old bikes, bigger turn signals are the way to go.
But I’m a multi-reflector fan even on vintage bikes.
Multi-reflector lenses are light, and I love them.
