When I first saw the rainbow hex wrench set—the go-to standard—I was like, huh?
But once you use it, you realize you can’t use anything else; it’s that convenient.
Hex socket screws, hex wrenches, hexagon wrenches, Allen keys—there are all sorts of names for them, aren’t there?
The terminology varies slightly by industry, but basically they’re all understood, so it’s probably best to use a name that’s easy to use and widely recognized.
I’ve always found PB hex wrenches to be the most user-friendly.
The tools themselves have a beautiful finish, and above all, they’re incredibly durable. Even with daily use, you can easily get ten years out of them.
For a weekend mechanic, they might even last a lifetime.
When the tip wears down, I cut-off wheel (literally a gold egg) attached to a grinder (Bosch really does look cool) to cut it and shorten it for continued use.
Tool steel like this can be bent easily with a regular hand torch.
You can make a slightly offset wrench with a relief, and it’s incredibly handy.
When removing an oil-cooled front engine damper, you almost never have to remove the exhaust pipe.
I use a custom tool made by bending this PB wrench for that job.
No matter what you buy, if you finish it to suit your own preferences, the convenience and attachment you feel will increase beyond belief (*’ω’*)
