We have a customer at our shop whose bike is unusually clean. . .
We’re always on edge. We work with the mindset that if we damage it after all this, we’re sorry.
Just protecting it with an inexpensive warmer cover from Amazon makes things mentally much easier.
The tires are always Metzeler by request. This time we chose the M9RR.
When changing tires, we clean the inside of the wheel and apply rust prevention. For painted wheels like these, we apply wax.
If you’re the owner, you’d definitely want to polish this spot.

I say this every time, but the manual tire changer is so unbeatable that no matter how clean the wheels are, I’m not scared at all (ΦωΦ)
Rim guards and tire levers, plus modern tires with solid casings, might give you a hard time. . . If you’re doing hand assembly, definitely give it a try! I recommend it.
The axle shaft should be fine too.
Fill the air firmly and make sure the bead is seated properly.
When you spin it in the assembled state, you can tell which tires spin “cleanly with no runout” and which ones make you think “hmm, is this okay? probably. . .”
Since weight is applied and it compresses when in use, it might not matter, but spinning cleanly with no runout feels better mentally.
