GSX1100S. Inspection, Deco-mainte, ELF Oil Change

The rainy season weather has been dragging on before we know it.

Once the rainy season ends, scorching summer will be here.
Year after year, I don’t ride when it’s hot and I don’t ride when it’s cold, and now it’s awkward to ride across prefectures on a motorcycle.

But hobbies also come with the joy of ownership, so there’s something nice about sneaking a peek at your own machine between rides and grinning like an idiot.

So let’s get to work.

First, as always, let’s check the tires. They were week 13/20 and week 13/36.
Please consider replacement at an appropriate time.

The wheel runout looks fine too.
While wheel runout is important, tire runout is also critical. If you properly true the tire during installation and maintain air pressure without letting it sit unnecessarily during storage, the condition will be preserved.

The wheel bearings were in good condition as well.

The brake disc thickness was fine.
The rear pads were completely worn out, so I replaced them.

The axle shaft is in good condition.

I cleaned the calipers and checked piston operation.
The rear is working well, but the front Brembo is showing some uncharacteristic stiffness.

I think it’s time to consider servicing it.

I also cleaned the pad springs nicely.

I did some detailed cleaning and lubrication.

I ventilated the front fork and cleaned, lubricated, and rust-proofed around the fork seals.
There’s already some rust developing inside the dust seal, so I think it’s time to consider servicing that too.

Various cleaning, rust-proofing, and lubrication. (The brake disc gets degreased and cleaned.)
I replaced the fuses.
More and more mysterious problems seem to pop up year after year. I’m not sure if it’s back to basics, but replacing the fuses too might give you more peace of mind.

The sponge filter deteriorates after a certain period, so I replaced it. This time I installed a Power Pod filter.

I replaced the brake fluid with Golden Cruiser DOT 4.

The JR8B can be used as a compatible plug for the DR8EA, so I used that.
It’s a slight performance upgrade, maybe? Since we always stock JR8B, it’s a lifesaver.

The master tank cap had peeling paint, so I polished it.
After that, I did some detailed cosmetic touch-ups, so you should notice “Hey, the undercarriage looks clean!”

I replaced the engine oil with ELF MOTO4RACE 10W-60.
After that, it’s a test ride and we’re done!
