Did you know that GSF1200s have become hard to come by lately? Two bikes… I wonder where they’ve gone.
Maintenance work requested alongside the inspection.

Our routine tire check. There’s about an 11-year difference between front and rear.
It’s worth keeping tire replacement in mind.

We thoroughly clean the drive chain and sprockets, then work the lube deep into the chain.
Rotating the chain by hand lets you feel the condition—you can sense any stiffness or problems.

Keeping it clean makes future work easier.

Let’s check the wheel and tire runout.
Even new tires can wobble sometimes, so it’s important to look and know what you’re dealing with.

We checked the axle shaft too. No issues there.

Let’s check the wheel bearings. Major failures are rare, so it’s important to replace them at reasonable intervals based on mileage and time.

Let’s check the brake disc thickness.
It’s already past the limit, so you might want to consider replacing the pads and disc together soon.
We cleaned the disc holes and degreased them.
Used bikes really do add up in costs when you look closely… (ΦωΦ)

In general, people tend to over-oil things. I prefer to use just the right amount with clean lubricant. We cleaned and oiled the speedometer cable and control wires too.

When maintenance includes restoration elements, the bike should stay clean and in good shape longer.
It feels better to work on something clean too.

The brake calipers still work, but they’re at a point where an overhaul is worth considering. We replaced the pins and springs with new ones.

We clean and oil the control systems to keep everything operating smoothly.

We clean the grooves in the main key and apply rust preventative to the fuel cap, then clean it.
The fuel cap should operate a bit more smoothly.

The spark plug has a heat range of 9 and looks new, so we’ll leave it for now.
We reused the air filter.

We replaced the fuse as expected. We also ventilated and cleaned the front fork.
The engine was really loud, so we removed the alternator and found the gear was grinding badly. We’ll need to replace it, so it’s on hold for now.
