You really feel the desire for things never to come loose or break.

These are typical sizes from that era. Rim widths like 1.85 and 2.15.
Was it because these were round numbers? A product of the times, or a tire specification issue?
When you let us know the tire’s manufacturing date, it’s like “No way, really?”
Then comes the joy of choosing tires the next day and beyond.
We removed the lever for cleaning and lubrication. If we clean off the stuck grease, it should operate a bit more smoothly.
There’s a reason for using lock nuts. I replace them almost every time.
The throttle area is a bit dry too. A little lubrication should help it operate smoothly.
The steering isn’t bad, but it’s not VERY GOOD either.
We’ll keep using it and address it when the time is right.
I don’t think you should take everything apart just because you can.
Prioritizing maintenance tasks might be more effective.
Cleaning things up bit by bit like this really builds your attachment to the bike.
The axle shaft showed no bending issues.
A little occasional lubrication on the speedometer cable should help it last longer and operate better.
It’s open, but the movement and distance color are both good. We’ll keep going.
We cleaned the back of the fender and loosened the fender mounting to retighten it in a better-fitting position.
There’s a pretty solid outer dust boot… how do you even get it off?
It turned out to be held on with a C-clip.
Often they’re in pretty sharp condition.
But the return was surprisingly good. I was relieved.
When all the parts are clean, you get that feeling of “Alright! Time to put it together!”
When things are dirty, nobody wants to touch them. Having a clean workspace to disassemble in is important.
We also degreased the brake discs.
The right fork oil seal is out.
If we do disassemble the fork, we’d need to replace the inner tube or re-plate it.
