Probably the first time in my life. An oil filter this stubborn. The outer shell of a cartridge oil filter is surprisingly thin-walled and wobbly. The newly purchased band-type filter wrench also won’t grip at all… So what do I do? TIG welding it to the filter wrench → too much hassle. Then it hit me (*´ω｀*)
Today’s Maintenance Hack (Handy Tips)
Problem: Oil filter seized by heat. Cup wrench slips and spins uselessly without loosening it.
Solution Item: Anti-Slip Tape (※ The kind of rough tape you can buy at a hardware store)
How to Use: Place a piece of anti-slip tape on the inside of the slipping cup wrench (or on the filter side), tap the wrench in firmly.
Effect: The tape thickness eliminates the play, and the intense friction grips the filter so firmly that you can turn it with surprising reliability! This is an absolute must-try hack before resorting to drilling through with a screwdriver.

Today is my regular day off, but the Amazon filter wrench arrived, so let me see… It won’t loosen at all… or rather, the wrench won’t grip it. Because the serrated part has so few teeth…
I’m stuck… I don’t want to be too rough, and machining is a hassle too…
There’s often a lot of play between the filter wrench and oil filter.
Oil filter tightness is problematic whether it’s too loose or too tight. The O-ring gets compressed, so the tightness is sometimes tricky.
Plus, foreign cars tend to use “square rings” which are harder to loosen.
It hit me (*’ω’*) Anti-slip tape is the only option!
I thoroughly degreased the filter wrench and applied anti-slip tape. The tape has decent width and length, and the band grips in the tightening direction against the tape itself.
The result was so good, I thought it was made specifically for this!
What was I struggling with so much…
In an instant (*´ω｀*) I thought “Really?” but it came off so easily… Amazing
It’s just rubber doing the work, but when something won’t come off, it really won’t… I realized that.
With a little ingenuity, I rode out the wave. Changed the oil and we’re done (*´ω｀*)
Mechanic Hack: Removing a Stuck Oil Filter with Anti-Slip Tape.
Problem: The oil filter is completely seized, and your standard cup wrench just slips and rounds off the edges. The Hack: Before you punch a messy hole in it with a screwdriver or buy an expensive specialty tool, try Anti-Slip Tape (grip tape). How to: Simply place a piece of anti-slip tape between the rounded filter and your cup wrench. Tap it in to make it snug. The tape fills the gap and provides massive friction, allowing the wrench to bite into the metal and loosen the stubborn filter effortlessly. A cheap and brilliant garage hack!
