I’m really happy about the 150/70-18. Recently, the rear has been trending toward 4.5 with 160, right?
Back in the day, 4.00 was the basic size, I think. My GS1000S is also 4.00. For classic 18-inch bikes, I still prefer around 3.50 for fun riding (*´ω`*)
The clearance with the caliper was a bit tight and got scratched, so I had it repainted. The finish is perfect as always (*´ω`*) hehe
Reliable aftermarket wheels. The air valve is solid and well-made—a great deal!
It’s been a while since I’ve installed Pirelli tires. With both vertical and horizontal alignment perfectly tight, the handling should be reassuring.
I swapped the bolts for Honda OEM ones to keep it looking stock.
The profile looks really good, and my expectations are very high.
The compound is SC3, so it’s a tire you can enjoy with confidence without being affected by temperature dependency. Now go ahead and test it out.
The chain line clearance has increased. With the α14, it was pretty tight, but now there’s plenty of room. That’s another great point.
Engine oil is Shell Advance 4T Ultra
I was amazed at how clean it was—didn’t even need changing. FCR with a power filter, yet the oil is this clean—it just feels good.
Quick test. I put a silicone hose (black) over the spring. Hopefully it reduces the vibration noise!
All that’s left is to get the inspection and it’s complete. There’s a lot of rain next week, ugh…
Z1-R Season 3: Installing Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp RS Tires.
Vehicle: Kawasaki Z1-R. Parts: Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp RS (Front: 110/80-18, Rear: 150/70-18). Concept: I wanted a tire that perfectly matches the classic 1980s aesthetic of the Z1-R but provides modern, high-performance grip to handle the upgraded engine (WEB CAM & CVK30 carbs). Verdict: The “RS” version is exactly that—a classic tread pattern with modern racing compound. The bike looks incredible, and I can’t wait to test the new level of traction!
