It’s been a month since we took it in, and I find myself taking advantage of the owner’s words that there’s no rush.
The rear brake feels spongy. Since we’re at it anyway, let’s take it apart.
The seal is stiff. The grooves are gummy.
The caliper piston isn’t moving well, so we wash the caliper and work it out. Very nice. But it’s awfully stiff? Something’s wrong? Even after thirty minutes, nothing changes?
If it’s in the condition shown in the image, no amount of washing will restore it. It’s faster and more effective to split it and replace the seals.
We polish it right up. It’s fast, effective, and comes out very clean.
There’s some corrosion on the body. No problem.
We inspect it, apply metal lubricant properly, assemble it, and we’re done.
The covers are dirty, so the owner wants us to replace them all. We’ll do the oil-cooled maintenance, and the pulser later.
It’s not slipping, but while we have it apart, tightening the starter clutch too gives peace of mind.
