
Every time I try to fire it up, here we go again—you really never know what’s going to happen next.

When I took it for a test ride, I noticed a slightly sweet smell and the water temperature was climbing way too fast.
Looking it over carefully, I found a crack that was slowly weeping coolant.

I peeled it back to confirm, and there was actually a hole too—that’s dangerous.

The early-model ZRX1100 has some serious creases and wrinkles like a triple belly—this is pretty rough.

The carburetor heater is disabled, so I’ll cut the new one too. Since it’s brazed, cutting and welding right at the root isn’t ideal.

I patched it up and called it done.
