It came in at the end of the year, and now it’s already May…

Let’s do an oil change before we reassemble the exterior.

The drain is a reassuring 17 mm, no matter where you work on it. Of course, it’s the genuine steel with a magnet.

Just over 500 km of actual riding… the condition is so shocking that I’m honestly afraid to touch it.

We were planning to finish just the exterior restoration and painting in one to two months. However, rust has developed inside the tank, so we’re moving on to rust removal and coating…

The cap also has severe rust, so for now I’ll do what I can handle myself.

Taking photos of everything generally reduces mistakes. Memory helps, but it gets fuzzy.
The reason I dislike phone calls and visitors is because I want to minimize the possibility of mistakes.

Polishing, then it looks like we’ll apply a rust-preventive coating—kind of like the old man’s flower-blooming trick.

It looks great. Let’s put it to work a little more.

I painted the plate. The mirror mounting structure isn’t very good. It’s a design where screws and nuts clamp down on plastic with no stepped section, no rubber, and no floating mechanism at all. If you tighten it properly, it puts too much stress on it. I’ll use a lock nut to avoid putting strain on it, just snug enough.

I’ll check all the tightening points, then fill it with gas, take it for a test ride, and we’re done.
