Almost entirely Giboshi connectors. Given the era, it’s understandable, but the serviceability is poor. Let’s clean it up.
You can really feel the era in how the ground is done. Back then, there were even cases of shared ground wires. You never see that anymore these days.
Lightly sand it with a file, pre-tin the lamp side, then solder it on with a quick touch—done! I’ve made sure the wire colors match.
Times change. That’s what I think. I believe the best approach is wiring that can be completely disconnected and reconnected without any marking or thought—so it only goes together one way.
I can’t really recommend situations where the colors don’t match, connectors have the same shape causing misconnections, or the body has to be cut to remove something, and so on.
Marking Giboshi connectors with a marker or paper tape is fine if it’s just for personal use, but honestly, it’s not a state I’d want to touch.
Gradually cutting and replacing them one by one.
It’s not finished yet, but I think it’ll end up looking like this. I’m impressed by how convenient connectors are! Still a work in progress…
