Oil was starting to leak from the shift shaft, which is a common issue, so let’s replace it.
It was dripping so much that little drops were accumulating at the bottom.
Surprisingly, oily spots clean up nicely when you give them a good scrub.
Oil seals aren’t typically pressed in that tightly. I bent and filed a flathead screwdriver into an ear-pick shape to remove this oil seal, and it popped right out!
When inserting the oil seal, wrap the entire shaft with protective tape, then push it in by hand with a pop—and you’re done.
Pushing this shaft to the other side can get a bit messy, so be careful.
I’d recommend coating it with some penetrating oil for rust protection and lubrication.
The case’s oil seals get hard from heat, so any seal could potentially blow out.
