I’ve been making a lens change belt using an Arc’teryx chalk bag
A quick-swap lens change belt.
To be honest, wearing it any time other than when you’re constantly swapping lenses looks really uncool.
I didn’t fully understand the structure of the chalk bag.
It’s nice that pulling the cord closes the top, but…
There’s a plastic retainer around the perimeter that makes it easier to put your hand in.
Since this retainer doesn’t close, my heavy lenses aren’t stable.
For a quick lens swap, I put into this bag…
The 70-200 at 1540g & 17-55 at 755g & TC-14eⅡ at 200g = 2495g total
To prevent the belt from digging into my waist, slipping, and falling off, I repurposed an unnecessary strap.
I also used a plastic buckle to make it easier to put on and take off.
My sewing machine has been acting up lately, so I hand-stitched it.
After trying it out
It works fine with something like the AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8G IF-ED
But the AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II bounces around when I walk with it in there.
It’s pretty risky when walking
But after using it today, I can swap lenses super easily and quickly!
It turned out to be more useful than I expected & I’m glad it didn’t end up as trash.
