Ideally I’d sink it this way, but since it’s not an OH (overhaul), I can’t drill a hole—metal shavings would get inside.
I’ll lower it carefully with a light grip and pull it out…
Pshhh!! It’s pitch black and smells awful!
The rust is progressing rapidly. I’ve cleaned it all off—it rusts easily, so please oil it regularly.
I slide the dust seal aside and oil the oil seal and metal rubber together.
It moves smoothly now!
This inverted section has a terrifyingly high initial spring rate, so I’ll cut the collar and reduce the preload a bit.
The fork work sure ate up a lot of time…
