I’m sneaking in to work on my own GS.
I’m fabricating and polishing the electrical component mounting plate under the seat, then sending it out for anodizing.
I modified a “high-pressure nozzle” for the BST40 to fit into the BST36…
The Mikuni MJ is M5×0.75, so I prepared a tap and further machined the tap tip itself to use it.
It fit perfectly! Though I won’t be able to ride for a while…
Great—at least it didn’t turn into wasted money…
Next up is the R1000 starter motor? I think…
The current starter motor is super compact and lightweight—I’m also using it on the GSF1200.
The gear diameter was too small, so it didn’t work… Too bad.
Next I dragged out a magnesium head cover for the GS1000R.
Since the GS1000R has an idler, the shape is different from the conventional one, and I need to grind away the contact area and install a slider on the top.
No good.

I remember an acquaintance used to have one and said it would leak no matter what…
Something about surfacing the head cover or not…
Looks like it might be a hassle, so I’m putting it on hold.
I can’t get started without doing the wiring.
