We took in a Bandit 1200 today.
The engine has cooled down, so let’s get started on the oil-cooled maintenance quick and easy ☆
This is our first time running into this particular pattern.
When removing the head cover, we clean it up and remove surrounding parts as much as possible.
The head cover has a gasket at the spark plug hole.
Then there are two dowel pins.
We remove the cover carefully so we don’t drop any of these.
When we removed the head cover, we heard a small sound—”clinkety-clank”…
Huh? What was that?
The gasket is there and the dowel pins are there.
Nothing around it fell out.
Thinking it might be my imagination, I slowly tried to crank it, and—”oh, it won’t turn.”
If we force it, we’ll break something.
What’s going on? That’s strange.
All the parts are there… hmm? Looking closely at the removed head cover…
The steel gasket part had completely popped out!
Ugh… okay. We removed both cams, took off the H-plate, shined a light in there, and rescued it ☆
Phew, glad we found it.
Now let’s reassemble the cams.
If you’re removing the head cover yourself, be careful.
This is the first time we’ve seen this happen.
