I want to swap out the cam—
I bet a lot of people feel that way.
But what’s it really like?
Does the bottom end disappear? Does the lifespan shorten? Or does it barely change?
It depends on the bike, but there’s a chance the bottom end loses a little power; however, all that excess low-end torque becomes leaner.
At high RPM, what used to feel like the engine speed and road speed weren’t in sync now feels synchronized—that’s the best way to put it.
Honestly, it’s a lot of fun.
Once you go to ST-2 or ST-R, the combination with the exhaust and carburetor can really backfire.
For street riding, isn’t the ST-1 the way to go?
On a high-mileage bike, you definitely want to replace the rocker arms.
Rocker arms are tricky—when the wear on the slipper where the cam contacts gets severe,
the engine ends up noisy no matter what you do.
Even arms that aren’t seized can have worn slippers.
