There’s an inspection and maintenance record book.
You get one when you buy a new bike, right? But honestly, most of the time the inspection is pretty minimal—just visual checks, and they rarely actually disassemble and inspect things hands-on.
That’s what I think, anyway.
So that’s why we decided to inspect the spots that look like they should be checked but usually aren’t, plus all the necessary items.
Disassembly and lubrication of the brake lever, clutch lever, shift pedal, and brake pedal.
You take these parts off, clean them, grease them up, check that they work, and tighten them back down.
It’s a hassle. On my own bike, I used to just squirt some oil on from the outside, but that kind of lubrication doesn’t last long.
The durability just isn’t there.
What goes in easy comes out easy, I think.
So every now and then, take them apart, clean them up, apply a thin, even coat of grease, and improve how smoothly they work.
