Inside the oil-cooled engine head

We ran a maintenance campaign and got to see the condition of all kinds of oil-cooled heads.
Cam scuffing concerns ★ loud valve noise ★ never checked before so want to confirm ★ and all sorts of other opinions
come in.
About cam scuffing… the degree of scuffing varies quite a bit, and with proper oil management and stable oil pressure and temperature, we think you can overcome it quite a lot.
However, if your oil temperature just keeps climbing and climbing, try shutting off the engine at traffic lights.
You can suppress the oil temperature quite a bit just by doing that. Even at short lights, oil temperature rises two to five degrees, but while it does rise,
the reality is you can’t ride with enough wind to bring it back down. If you can’t lower it, then not raising it in the first place will make the engine
much happier ★
About oil pressure… the pump is driven by the back gear of the primary reduction (clutch housing).
About hydraulic pressure… the pump is driven by the reduction gear on the back of the primary reduction (clutch housing).
it becomes an easy-to-scuff situation.
About engine oil ★
I haven’t used really bad oil so I can’t say for sure, but I don’t think the brand alone determines whether you get scuffing or not.
Some people using OEM oil don’t have scuffing, and some people using expensive ester non-poly oil do scuff,
so while mileage matters, oil that’s been used pretty harshly (heated repeatedly) should probably be changed regardless of mileage ♪
Cam scuffing doesn’t mean you just swap the cam !!
You have to replace the rocker arms at the same time, so on a 2-1 setup that’s 8 pieces, and on a 1-1 setup you need 16 rocker arms
so throw in a Yoshimura and change the rocker arms too and you’re quickly over 100,000 yen! (just in parts)
Whether things are running rough or not, I think it’s definitely an essential item to check ★
An oil-cooled bike with the valves perfectly adjusted, the carburetors synchronized, and the engine damper replaced really runs beautifully.
It wears a little bit with every kilometer you ride, so it’s surprisingly easy for the owner not to notice the accumulated degradation ♪
Can’t wait for the GSF to come back—

I wonder when the GSF will be back soon~
