Motorcycle repair work comes in waves.
When you get cocky and say “sure, sure♪” and take in jobs, you end up in a really tight spot.
Now we’re heading into inspection season. Most people buy their bikes either before Golden Week or in early fall.
This morning I had a Z1000—a bike that looks a lot like a GSF, really well made, and honestly I kind of like it.
After the tester shop adjusted the lights, we made it safely to the inspection station.

Question:
If you swap out a catalytic converter on an emissions-compliant bike for an aftermarket one without a cat and no emissions report, but the CO readings are fine—
what do you do?
Answer:
With aftermarket parts, you need either an emissions report from that manufacturer or one from your own testing—you can’t pass without it!
Hmm, I need to take the ZRX in for inspection, but in the end I’ll have to put that heavy stock muffler back on…
Then this afternoon, after Decoboco, I took H-kun’s GSF that he’d left here in for inspection…
What’s been bugging me lately is when the bike fails inspection even after the tester shop adjusts it.
I guess it can’t be helped—bikes change posture depending on where you sit…
Since I’m usually not wearing a one-piece suit, they’re careful with me, but they say “it should be fine.”
If it fails on the lights, they say “retesting? No way—you have to get it adjusted at the tester shop first!”
Yeah, that’s rough…
While I was printing the application form, it went “GRRRRR” and the paper got jammed—that’s the end of that.
I’ll pick up a new one tomorrow morning, but I can’t go tomorrow, so it’ll have to be Wednesday…
