This GSX-R just wouldn’t run right no matter what.
Yep, we had to tear into the carburettor.
When we opened it up, well… it looked like it hadn’t been run in ages.
The inside looked like the engine had fallen apart just from being started.
All the O-rings needed replacing.
The O-ring under the throttle body—easy to forget—is a must-replace.
For Suzuki models, this is a critical checkpoint.
I think some model years have parts not on the list, but I forget which ones.
On this year’s carburettor, the float, float valve, and float valve seat are all one piece.
So we swapped it for the separate float and float valve from a GSF1200 carburettor.
That way, next time we can just replace the float valve assembly, right?
I happened to have a spare used carburettor lying around, so I gave it to them.
Cleaned it, cleaned it, cleaned it, then checked the fuel level over and over.
Balanced the carburetors.
And just like that, it ran pretty smoothly.
Lubed up the throttle sleeve and it moves nice and easy.
All good!
