So it turned into a story where everyone gets happy
We stripped all the electrical system parts from the donor scooter!
Last night I was working on it after everyone had left.
I really hate scooters.
So many screws, so many clips, and old ones crack and won’t come off…
We can’t do any scooter work at all here★
Confirmed with working parts
The components in this area are
“Antenna,” “electronic key cylinder & key,” and “control unit”
I replaced the “antenna” thinking it might have poor reception, but that wasn’t it
When I replaced the main culprit, the “electronic key cylinder & key,” it turned ON right away.
Without a manual I can’t be sure,
but the “control unit” might be involved in ignition and fuel injection?
In the end I only replaced the “electronic key cylinder & key.”
I upgraded the poorest-spec Forza with a transmission-equipped meter and reset the mileage★
Next question: why did that “electronic key cylinder” break in the first place?
I figured the regulator must have failed and caused overcharging—
so I checked the voltage, but it was fine….
Degradation? There’s no recall★
It had 40,000 kilometers on it
The day it broke
The battery was weak, the starter was weak, and I’d forgotten my phone, so I headed home
Even at the bottom of the house I thought “oh, this might be bad?”
It was weak, but it started, so I managed
When I thought “oh, I need to stop at Tokyu Store,” it wouldn’t start at all outside
but when I jiggled the switch it responded and I made it to the store★
After charging it, I had errands in the afternoon, so I tried to ride it, but that’s when it quit.
After that, I tried “replacing the smart key battery” and “new battery,” but no luck—
the smart key reset procedure didn’t work either
In the end I had to replace everything.
It might have been the smart key,
but I only have one, so I couldn’t test it.
The safe bet is replacing the electronic key cylinder assy.
Finally got it running★
I need to think about what to use as a loaner for this one
1) I’m worried it’ll break again
2) It’s racking up more miles than expected, and costs are piling up.
3) It’s getting beat up.
