“How often should fork oil be changed?”
→Well, it depends on mileage, time elapsed, and how the bike is used, so there’s no one-size-fits-all answer.
We want to avoid having to do the work twice, so please keep that in mind.
If you just change the fork oil → ride a bit and then the fork starts leaking! → it feels like a waste of money on that first fork oil change.
Fork overhaul → fork oil change is the lower-risk approach.
Before changing the fork oil, we apply some oil to check, then cycle it through full stroke, but if something unexpected happens! we need to be careful.
It’s not too dirty actually—the fork precision and metal seating look good.
Since we’re waiting anyway, this time we’ll do a complimentary stem disassembly and lubrication.
Once you pull the fork, you want to remove the stem too.
