We’ll complete the remaining work on the temperature meter installation.

Both the engine and oil cooler lines get very hot, so we want to avoid direct bundling.
However, the insulating silver material tends to fray, which we don’t prefer, so we cut two grooves into the fuel hose with a lathe and secured the clamp there with a shared fastener.

The part we forgot to order has arrived, so the rear section is now complete.

The rattling noise was from a loose drive sprocket nut. This is a spot that naturally loosens, so we want to check it carefully.
A lock nut alone won’t prevent loosening, so a lock washer is essential.
On bikes from this era, the front washer and bolt provide the anti-rotation protection.

While preventing loosening is important, what really matters is not damaging the countershaft.
I’ve seen bikes where the threads got stripped. I’ve seen bikes where the splines wore down.
Avoiding damage means avoiding unnecessary costs and fewer headaches overall.
