I’ve been thinking lately that using fittings for installation just doesn’t work. The material cost ends up being nearly as much as the unit itself.
Homemade—or should I say one-off—does that sound nicer?
We bend the stainless steel pipe 180 degrees with a bender. Heating and bending is tough, angle control is strict, and cleaning up the burn marks is a pain. Maybe that ambiguity is what makes it good.
We expanded it with a bead roller and added a retaining feature. After fabrication, we polish it. This grit of polishing works great with HL stainless steel and comes out looking clean.

I’m torn between French-style and Japanese-style hose clamps. Don’t you think the screw tightening point on hose clamps detracts from the appearance? Actually, I don’t really mind it.
I installed it, but there’s not much to get excited about. Well, I guess a hose would be fine too? No, actually it wouldn’t.
