Let’s clean the chain. It’s one of those spots people tend to skip, and it gets pretty dirty.
I always wear gloves, so I can really dig in and get it done.
Let’s lift the dust seal and lubricate the fork. It removes dirt and helps prevent rust.
We’ll remove the levers occasionally and reapply grease. Old grease gets sticky, which makes the input and return action sluggish.
The throttle looks nice and clean.
This is a good time to clean inside the pipes too.
The calipers look good with brake dust buildup. Let’s wash the calipers, then apply rust preventative to the body, lubricate the pistons, and check the operation.
We’ll replace the brake pads and clean the disc while we’re at it.
Quite a bit of dust has accumulated.
By the way, this is nonfiction.
The shine on the front and rear discs is different now. It feels subtly satisfying.
It’s kind of like cleaning the sole of a shoe, I guess?
I checked the steering stem left and right, front and back. No issues.
The fluid is getting a bit cloudy. At minimum, change it once every two years. Ideally, once a year.
The air filter picks up oil mist and gasoline mist too. By the way, it smells pretty strongly of gasoline.
Well, that makes sense. The intake is the only place exposed to the atmosphere, so it’s basically unventilated. The filter itself smells pretty strong, by the way. It’s better to replace it after some time has passed.
A long neck looks uncool, so I trimmed it a bit. Much cleaner…
