Removing the cover is quite a challenge. This first job is full of mysteries.
It wouldn’t budge at all, so what’s going on? There’s a bearing on the cover side that’s press-fitted and holding it in place.
I made a simple puller and carefully worked it off.

Two locations inside the case, one on the outside, secured from the inside.
After that, remove the starter motor clip and pull out the gear—done.

I was glad I could get it out without disconnecting the oil lines.

Since there’s no manual, I’m documenting everything with photos as I go.

It looks like it’s worn down nearly 10 millimeters.

I’ll polish it lightly and clean out the grooves to get it ready.

The magnet isn’t peeling off, so that’s reassuring.

Just taking some measurements. The difference between the worn and unworn areas isn’t much.

The thickness varies slightly, so I filed it down and fitted it in. Check, check, and check again.
