② KZ1000A Inspection — Electrical System Cleanup — Deco-mainte

Let’s do a Deco-mainte and check the carburetor.

It seems to leak occasionally—could be age-related—so let’s take a look.

Fuel won’t leak unless the level rises well above the mating surface.

Check the actual fuel level by sight. Rarely, instead of needle valve wear, there’s gradual fuel level rise from wear on the carburetor body itself—a blind spot. Seeing it with your own eyes really boosts confidence.

Synchronization looks fine, so we’ll leave it alone.

Polish the chain and sprockets thoroughly and lubricate them.

The distance collar has shifted from all the play. We’ve adjusted it.

Let’s remove the dust boots from the calipers and clean them.

They’re in excellent condition—no issues at all.

We’ll clean the disc holes nicely too.

Moving to the front—no issues here either.

The bearing alignment looks good too.

Let’s lubricate the speedometer cable as well.

Peel back the dust boots on the calipers and clean them. After washing, it’s a good idea to always apply grease to the body—preventing rust is the most important thing.

Clean the disc,

and move on to the control system. We’ve polished it.

Same with the lower bracket.

Wipe down the throttle and apply a light coat of engine oil—just enough to coat the skin.

When trying to open the cap, the body loosens—so we held it with a hose clamp and opened it.

Sorry for pulling it out first. We’ve replaced the fluid.

Wash the air filter, replace the spark plug, measure compression, and we’re done!
