I definitely noticed the headlight was dim during the inspection. It’s a telltale sign, in a way.

The regulator was already replaced a while back. I measured the generator AC side with the engine running: 1-2, 1-3, 2-3. It only rose about 20V. The resistance was around 0.4Ω to 0.5Ω.
I concluded it’s the generator stator.

It’s already in charred coffee condition, but there’s no particular continuity failure.

There was no magnet separation, so that’s reassuring. It’s a very simple charging system, so it’s easy to understand.

Time passes, and getting a new one is nice. It’s so jet black you’d think it’s a different part.

Installed it.

Checked that nothing was loose.

Measured A-B, A-C, B-C. Confirmed all readings up to 70V AC. Pretty impressive.
The resistance was about the same at 0.4Ω.
All done!
