A savior for discontinued fuel tanks! The Beater aluminum tank.
Z-series bikes and others have steel reproductions available, which is a lifesaver, but for other models it’s tough~, right?
Buy an aluminum tank and paint it!

When you swap to an aluminum tank, things get lighter… the weight…
Your wallet too… gets lighter… relatively speaking… ( ﾟДﾟ)
Light and rust-free, so it’s incredibly appreciated.
However, there have been past incidents where aluminum tanks rusted.
A used bike that came from up north had a rare aluminum tank installed, and when you opened the fuel cap…
mold-like fuzz grew…
It turned out that iron particles from the fuel cap had fallen into the tank and red rust had grown all jagged inside…
It’s rough~
Aluminum tanks are very soft~, so honestly they dent easily.
There’s that feeling of “Wait, didn’t the tank dent get bigger?” happening or not happening.
If it has a curved shape it’s probably fine, but a shape like the Z1R might need a bit of caution.
I’m not sure about recent ones, but there’s also the interaction with the Newton cap, and I’ve had concerns about breather overflow too…
OEM really is great… I think to myself wistfully.
Even though I’ve written all this, there’s no doubt it’s a part that delivers quite a bit of satisfaction.
And when you do dent it, the emotional letdown is pretty big too, so you have to think about cost-effectiveness… The Yoshimura logo is so cool (*’ω’*)
