Both the master and caliper have a shape that makes it hard to bleed air.
Air inevitably gets trapped in the high spots, so “thinking like the air” is important.
Basically, remove the step ASSY and caliper and do it right!
Since it just won’t feel quite right, out comes the Makita vacuum pump.

It’s a compact and reliable workhorse that sucks well.
This is the second time I’ve used it for brakes…
I mainly keep this vacuum pump for fork work.
The fluid hose is transparent and easy to see!
Whether bleeding air finishes in a snap or takes forever depends almost entirely on the caliper/master layout.
I wonder if I should have gone with an air-free design…
