It felt like it took forever, but it was about a month and a half. Since it was lifted front and rear, it just felt like it was sitting there for ages.
The post-painting finishing work was incredibly tough—worst one yet.
The paint came out great and we assembled it today to complete the job.
The engine cover turned jet black and got a nice refresh.
The chrome was originally pretty beat up, so it got a major refresh. The S1-type pulsar cover is quite heavy, so we ground down the inside. *The GPZ1100F has the pickup on the outside, so it would interfere.
Swingarm got an OH and a refresh! New chain too.
We went with the usual DID chain in gold. The front and rear wheels are mismatched, so it took a bit of work to figure out the settings.
Old custom jobs with mixed OEM parts were surprisingly common back then.
The metallic-look fuel tank and top bridge painted black.
It looks pretty clean and tidy now.
We really wanted to get the side cover to stay on tight!
Fitting a TMR on a GPZ1100 is incredibly tight on space. We used a spacer between the intake manifolds to offset it, and it’s right on the edge. I really have to admire how well it was installed.
Move the TMR back and it hits the tank. The fuel cock is in front, so it can’t go any further forward. When removing the tank, we need clearance to move it back.
It’s a pretty tight puzzle. Genius layout—GOOD!
The first plan was to relocate the fuel cock and move the TMR forward, but the story and process got really long, so… we scrapped it. We went with the simplest approach: cut what interferes and weld it.
Now the side cover is securely fixed. This time we were painting the tank anyway, so welding was fine, but it would be tricky if we weren’t.
That’s how it turned out. All that’s left is a test ride and then we’ll write up the invoice and call it done!
