Golden Week approaching! GSX-R1100 ETC MSC-BE700S & USB-C installation RS11 tire change

It’s already started, hasn’t it? I hope everyone is doing well in the new fiscal year.

Now, the ETC installation that was requested quite a while ago has finally come up in the queue.
We’ll get right to work on the installation.

Lately, for ETC, this is the only choice! Mitsuba Sankowa MSC-BE700S

I’m a fan of Mitsuba Sankowa, so I only choose this ETC.
Since it’s ETC 2.0 with a new standard, it can be used for a long time to come.

Time passes, and I fabricated the antenna and lamp bracket.

I’m using shearing and spot welding to save time as much as possible.
Once you start getting particular, there’s no end to it, and using off-the-shelf parts ends up looking disappointing.

That balance between the two is actually a pretty difficult judgment call.

I think it’s generally hard to justify having the installation cost exceed the unit price for an ETC installation,
which is why we end up having to choose off-the-shelf parts.
However, there are also requests to install things cleanly and neatly,
so I’m balancing those considerations as I work.

When everything is laid out, it looks like this.
There’s nowhere for the turn signal relay to go, so I mounted it together.

When installed, it looks like this.
The visibility is excellent, and with M6 bolts for quick disconnect, the serviceability is outstanding.

I couldn’t find a particularly good space, so I mounted the base on the handlebar switch.

If it’s just for charging a smartphone,
I think Quad Lock with Qi charging might have been better,
but since this would be a long discussion, I installed the USB as requested.

After installing the USB, it’s always a good idea to check it thoroughly with a tester for peace of mind.
These small testers are sold at reasonable prices on Amazon, which is helpful.

Since there’s no D unit installed, I sourced an OP power supply.
These types of connectors work best in the 110 size, which improves usability.

Labeling the added wiring with a label maker means anyone can understand it later, which gives peace of mind.

Lately, everyone’s tires have the same tread pattern, so you can’t tell them apart at a glance.

Back in the day, they would definitely have had minimal tread, almost like a cut slick.
Tires look cooler the less tread they have.

I happened to check the tire weight.
Knowing the tire weight doesn’t really bring any excitement,
but comparing old and new at replacement time might add some depth to the experience.

The inside of the rim had significant corrosion, so I polished it.
I switched to aluminum air valves, which improved both safety and workability.

And that’s how it’s finished.
