Wait, wasn’t the Tokyo shop closing at the end of April?? It’s not as easy as you might think—reality is harsh. Leftover work? Overtime? We’ve got plenty of both.
It was just an inspection and oil change, so I forgot to post it on the blog. I still can’t remember all those Katana designations like SAE and SBE… Don’t you wish they’d made them easier to remember?
1981 GSX1100S (SZ): The first generation model. It debuted with styling nearly identical to the prototype shown at the Cologne Show. Characterized by star-shaped cast wheels, silver engine and bodywork, and suede-like seat. Some spoke wheel versions also exist.
1982 GSX1000S (SZ): A limited edition model with displacement reduced to 1015cc for AMA Superbike racing participation.
1983 GSX1100S (SD): Bodywork changed to two-tone colors: red/silver or blue/silver. Wheels changed to six-spoke design, and engine and rear shock springs received black paint.
1984 GSX1100S (SE): Red/silver two-tone with increased red coverage. Tail cowl changed to black. Production ended with this model.
Reissue models (1987–1992)
1987 GSX1100S (SAE/SBE): Reissued by dealer request. SAE featured silver bodywork and star wheels similar to the early SZ, while SBE uniquely adopted a red frame.
1990 GSX1100S (SL): Introduced as a Suzuki 70th anniversary commemorative model. Similar styling to SAE with a commemorative sticker on the tank.
1992 GSX1100S (SSL): Same specifications as SL with red/silver bodywork. Engine received black paint.
Domestic models (1994–2000)
1994 GSX1100S (SR): Following Japan’s removal of displacement restrictions, it debuted as the first domestic official model. Equipped with electric-assist clutch, large oil cooler, and front fork with stepless preload adjuster.
2000 GSX1100S (SY) FINAL EDITION: As emissions regulations made compliance difficult, it was sold as a limited final production run of 1,100 units. Featured reinforced front brakes, tubeless tires, and other refinements. Includes serial number plate.
I wish the oil-cooled GSX-R was in alphabetical order like that (*´ω`*) And why does it start with Z anyway… There must be some deep meaning to it.
The exhaust is the legendary Oono Speed Sakura Cannon in black chrome (rare)
This exhaust is lighter than stock and makes oil changes a breeze—it’s fantastic. The design is nearly stock, so it has excellent aesthetic appeal too.
Brake fluid is Golden Cruiser DOT4
It was in basically good condition, so that’s reassuring. After a light chain cleaning and lubrication, tire pressure adjustment, we were all set.
With such pleasant weather ahead, “enjoy a great bike life” and take care.
